My Favorite Gift of All

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

My husband and I have been married for just over two years now, but I often think back to when we were first dating and remember the excitement and anticipation, our first few dates, and the small gifts he gave me when we were first dating.

I still have each of these little tokens of affection and I absolutely cherish them. I keep them in a wooden box that he made for me, that just happens to be exactly the right size for all of my little treasures. I take out my little treasure chest and look at each of the sentimental contents almost every day and I keep the box on my vanity, where I see it throughout the day.

Because my husband has to be away from home a lot, I sincerely appreciate having this one small thing that constantly reminds me of our love and of how thoughtful he is each time he picks out a small, meaningful gift. Of course, he still buys me gifts and I love them all, big and small, but it is these little gifts that didn’t cost much that mean the most to me.

These small things let me know that he thinks of me often and that he misses me when he is away. And, because he finds special little gifts that do not cost much, but that mean a lot, I know that he has put thought and effort into each one. Knowing this just makes me love him more, and makes me appreciate the love that we are so fortunate to share.

There is one gift in particular that technically lives in the box, but it doesn’t spend there. It is a personalized silicone wristband that he gave me about two years ago. It goes with everything and has held up perfectly with almost everyday wear, and I just love to wear it so much – whether I am going out to dinner, running errands or just cleaning the house – that it rarely spends more than a day in my special box.

I know this perfect little gift didn’t cost much, but the thought that he put in to picking a color that would go with everything I wear and personalizing the silicone bracelet with a message meant just for me, makes this gift my favorite out of all of the small tokens he has given me over the years.
